The quick start guide provides you with the basic understanding of the program and how to start with registration and team formations etc https://www.theteamfusion.com/post/first-lego-league-quick-start-guide. This is a good starting point but you need more details in terms of what equipment to buy and why etc.
Essential items to buy
Robotics Kit :
Spike Prime is the newest robotics Kit from the Lego education which is approved for the First Lego League Challenge program. There are other kits like EV3 but that's old at this point and not available to purchase from Lego education. The Spike Prime kit is equipped with motors and some sensors to get your basic robot going. Click below to take a look at what Spike Prime kit contains
Robotics Expansion Kit :
Spike Prime expansion kit enables building more advanced robots as it provides some of the components not available in the Spike Prime Kit. Overtime, we ended up buying 3 kits for our team and we bought all of them with the expansion kit. Click the link below to see the Spike Prime expansion kit
With the above two, you are set for your FLL Challenge journey. Please do note, that if your team gets a grant, you should be able to buy both of these items from the www.firstinspires.org itself. Which is great but this might be restricted to a single set per team. Some teams may not be able to wait for the grant to be available and might want to buy the first kit sooner to get started early.
Challenge Material:
Challenge Material can only be bought through the www.firstinspires.org portal. This contains the challenge mat and the Lego pieces to construct the missions for the season.
Engineering Notebook:
Engineering notebook can only be bought through the www.firstinspires.org portal. This contains the engineering notebook for kids and also another book for Coach to help facilitate the meetings. This is a must item for Rookie teams since it does provide the needed information.
